SUMMARY:Who Can Vote? A Brief History of Voting Rights in the US exhibit at the Columbus Lowndes Public Library
DESCRIPTION:The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System is hosting the traveling exhibit Who Can Vote? A Brief History of Voting Rights in the US\, organized by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History\, from June 26-August 21\, 2026. \nThe Who Can Vote? exhibition examines voting rights\, emphasizing the role of the US Constitution and the interplay between the states and federal government in determining who is allowed to vote. Beginning with the founding era and going up to the election of 2000\, this exhibition explores the complex history of the right to vote that forms the core of our nation’s democracy. DESCRIPTION:Mississippi University for Women will present the fourth episode titled “Conquer by a Drawn Game” from the new Ken Burns documentary The American Revolution on August 31 at 6pm in the Nissan Auditorium in Parkinson Hall. \nThis episode covers the period from January 1777 to February 1778. As America braces for a third year of devastating war\, British commanders launch campaigns to take Albany and Philadelphia. General Howe beats General Washington at Brandywine and Germantown\, while the Continental Congress flees Philadelphia. But the Americans’ surprising victory over General Burgoyne at Saratoga opens the door for France to officially support the United States.​ \nThe entire documentary is 6 episodes total with each episode running approximately 2 hours in length. \nAdmission is free and open to the public.​ \nFor more information\, call the MUW Department of History\, Political Science\, and Geography at (662) 329-7390.
